The Birthday Fairy Project shines a light on the lives lost to gun violence in the United States by recognizing the birthday of each victim. This is a 100% volunteer project with zero budget. I will never ask for donations or monetize via social media.
Days after the attack on Robb Elementary in Uvalde, my frustration led me to a realization: every single day is the birthday of a victim of American gun violence.
News coverage is insufficient. We need daily reminders…we need to see the people, ordinary and extraordinary. We need to be reminded of the loss and pain of family members every day.
It is up to each of us to #honorwithaction.
We must demand #sensiblegunlaws when we vote.
Zero budget means we do not advertise. We need you!
Follow The Birthday Fairy Project to see daily birthday tributes and share our website and social media posts with your friends.
This is an ongoing project. The birthdays represented in our database are still just a fraction of the victims of American gun violence. If you are the loved one of a victim, please send information my way – new submissions as well as additions or corrections to existing posts -- using the “Add a Tribute” button.
Thanks to the vision and work of a family friend and voice actor, our tributes include voiceover contributed by a team of over 50 generous professionals. If you are interested in lending your voice to our cause, contact Christy Spadafore at ChristySpadafore@gmail.com.
Most importantly, The Birthday Fairy Project is inspired by my mom (pictured), Wanda Jean Kennedy, The OG Birthday Fairy. She absolutely loved to celebrate others on their birthdays with an exuberant and heartfelt rendition of Happy Birthday and a Toodle-Ooo sign-off. She taught me to be a good person, to do and speak up for what is right, and inspired me to work to make a difference no matter how large or small.
